Calling Education believes in the inspirational and guiding influence of passionate teachers. We would rather have excellent teachers teaching in average facilities, than average teachers teaching in excellent facilities. It is one of our highest priorities to recruit outstanding teachers who understand “calling” and share our dreams for Calling Education.
Werner Cloete is a passionate educator who has been influential in various education spheres. He has spoken widely at staff development sessions and education conferences across South Africa, including conferences hosted by FEDSAS and SAOU. He is the co-founder of Engage, a movement to help schools inspire and equip fathers in the school community to be more involved with their children and he authored a motivational book for Christian teachers.
He completed his school career in 1999 at Paul Roos Gymnasium as head boy. He obtained a BSc degree and PGCE from Stellenbosch University and later an honours degree in Theology from the Stellenbosch Theological Institute. His first teaching positions were in the United Kingdom where he taught at two prestigious schools – The Royal Grammar School and Berkhamsted School. He then returned to Paul Roos Gymnasium to teach Physical Science where he also served as Resident Boarding House Master, Head of Character Development, Head of the Christian Union and Head of Hockey. He resigned from his full-time position at Paul Roos Gymnasium at the end of 2015 to co-found Calling Education. Werner is married to Lelani, also a teacher. They have two young children, Daniël and Emily.
Raoul grew up in Whiteriver, Mpumalanga where he attended school but he later moved to Nelspruit High School to pursue his passion for tennis. After school, he spent a year coaching at a tennis academy in England. He studied at the University of Potchefstroom where he completed his Undergraduate Degree in Education (BEd), followed by an Honours in Educational Psychology and a Masters (MEd) in Mathematics.
After completing his studies, he spent six months as a touring tennis coach and six months teaching at Curro Nelspruit. He then moved to Cape Town where he spent seven years teaching at Durbanville High School. He joined Calling Academy in 2019 and loves the privilege of seeing the growth and development of the school and learners.
He enjoys spending time outdoors where he gets to appreciate some of what God created while running and cycling. He places a lot of value on relationships, discipleship and therefore loves building into other people’s lives by doing life together and do so by being a husband/friend/teacher.

Jannie grew up in Paarl and absolutely loved his school career at Paarl Boys’ High School, leading to his passion for teaching boys. He obtained a BComm(Agricultural Economics) at Stellenbosch University after which he joined his family’s table grape farming business for 14 years, learning valuable lessons that enhance his current subject teaching.
After sensing that God was leading him into a new professional phase, Jannie returned to Stellenbosch University to complete his PGCE in 2016. Subsequently, he taught Accounting for two years at Swellendam High School before joining Calling Academy at the beginning of 2019. He is a keen enthusiast of endurance sports, loves trail running and his role as trail running coach at Calling Academy. Jannie is married to Beatrix and has three children: Gabriella, Jan-Dawid and baby Katja.

Literacy and Natural Science
Samora was born in King William’s town and grew up in Khayelitsha and Eerste River. He graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a BSc in Human Life Sciences and PGCE. He started his teaching career at Paul Roos Gymnasium in 2011. In 2012, he taught Mathematics at Khayamandi High School. From 2013 to 2018, he taught Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy and Life Science at Westerford High School before joining Calling Academy in 2019.
Samora is passionate about community development and particularly wishes to see the development of young people from previously disadvantaged communities. Consequently, he had the portfolio of community development on a SRC sub-committee, at EVery Nation Church and at Matie FM while at Stellenbosch University.
Kate grew up in Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg where she was educated at Trinity House High School. Kate remembers being a bookworm from a young age. Her belief in being an eternal scholar makes her a better teacher. Her passion for learning has meant that she has studied as much as possible! She obtained her BA degree and her Honours degree (cum laude) in English from Stellenbosch University. Thereafter, she embarked on a teaching certificate from UNISA, and later a business degree at Honours level from the University of Pretoria. She now hopes to complete her Masters degree in English.
Kate began her teaching career at Paul Roos Gymnasium, later moving to St. Stithians Preparatory in Johannesburg, where she worked in remedial education. She also worked in the research field for a consultancy firm and held positions as journalistic writer, tutor, designer, consultant, business analyst, master of ceremonies and a trainer. She joined Calling Academy in August of 2019 and considers herself extremely fortunate to educate such special young men.

NC grew up in Paarl where he attended Paarl Boys’ High. He obtained a BComm Invest Management degree from Stellenbosch University as well as a PGCE so that he could pursue his God-given passion; teaching. He started his teaching career at a private high school in Vietnam. There he gained more insight and understanding of international curriculums and how to implement different approaches to better accommodate the different learning styles of his learners.
NC joined Calling Academy in January 2020. Having been a passionate sportsman at heart his whole life, he is thrilled at the opportunity to use cricket to further influence learners. NC recently got married to Nicola and they reside just outside Stellenbosch.

Reinhard was born and bred in Touwsriver where he attended De Kruine Secondary School where he achieved outstanding matric results. He then completed his BEd with FET Specialisation at CPUT where he further obtained a BEd Honours degree in Teaching and Learning. He completed his practical teaching stints at Zonnebloem NEST Secondary School and HTS Drostdy.
Reinhard is passionate about community transformation through creating academic opportunities. He started a non-profit organisation, MeantFoYou, to educate learners about tertiary study opportunities and sourcing funding. He is committed to student success inside the classroom and in life. He joined Calling Academy at the start of 2020 where he builds meaningful relationships to create student success. He dedicates his life aiming to inspire the next generation of learners to chase their dreams and make them a reality.
Karen completed her BA HDE at UWC. She started her teaching career at Beacon Hill Secondary School in Mitchells Plain. She left teaching to start a business offering remedial classes in reading and basic Mathematics, but returned to the formal classroom when she joined Abbotts College Century City in October 2000. Karen joined the Calling Academy team in January 2021.
She is passionate about instilling positive values in young adults by incorporating life lessons in her teaching. She considers it a privilege to be part of the journey of these unique young men.
She is married to Heine, a primary school teacher. They are blessed with two sons and a granddaughter.
Teacher of Physical Science, Mathematics and Computer Applications Technology
Sean strives to distinguish all his work in education through pioneering and excellence. He is a a great advocate for innovation and creativity in the classroom environment. Sean completed his Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Physics at Stellenbosch University and continued his studies with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specialising in teaching Mathematics and Physical Science.
He has been involved in teaching Robotics and Coding and enjoys dreaming about the future possibilities for education in South Africa. At the center of his passion for teaching, Sean believes that his God-given talents are best used to help others. It is his joy to serve those around him and does his best to to see his learners succeed.
Nonkosi was born in Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape but spent more than half her life in Cape Town, in Gugulethu, Langa and Khayelitsha. She received her BA in isiXhosa, Linguistics and History from the University of the Western Cape. She also obtained her higher diploma in education at the same institution. She furthered her teaching career by doing a postgraduate BEd degree and a senior degree at UWC.
Nonkosi also learnt how to teach English as a foreign language by completing her TEFL course. She also did a short course on Project Management at Pentech, now called CPUT. She is so passionate about languages, that she also studied a Bachelor of Philosophy in Translation at the University of Stellenbosch.
Nonkosi has taught isiXhosa at various schools as well as Life Orientation and Social Science. She joined Calling Academy in 2018 as part-time teacher of isiXhosa while she also teaches isiXhosa at Rhenish Girls’ High. Apart from being passionate about education, Nonkosi loves singing and athletics.
Prudence is from Idas Valley in Stellenbosch where she matriculated at Luckhoff High School. She completed a course in office administration and accounting. She previously worked as debtors’ clerk as telesales operator for Pernod Ricard, telesales agent for Fasterfin and as office administrator for ARPM consulting and Liquor Runners.
Prudence joined Calling Academy in 2018 as receptionist where she can live out her passion of working with children. She also completed two first aid courses while with Calling Academy.
Nerine grew up on a farm outside of Bredasdorp and attended Paarl Gymnasium. She studied BA Socio- Informatics at Stellenbosch University after which she worked as mission and teams coordinator both in Stellenbosch and Swaziland before bringing her outstanding administrative skill to the Calling Academy team in 2019.
Nerine lives in Stellenbosch with her husband, George-Nicholas, and daughter Mia-Beth. Her main pursuit in life is to serve and love those around her by following the example of Jesus Christ and to see His purposes fulfilled.
Kyra grew up in Randfontein, a small town outside of Johannesburg. She matriculated from Monument High School in 2011. Thereafter, she completed her BCom accounting degree and honours degree at the University of Pretoria. After her studies she moved to Amsterdam for 3 years with her husband, Ruan. They both worked together in the auditing industry. They relocated back to Johannesburg, where she further pursued her SAICA articles.
She started as the financial manager of Calling Education in January 2021, now being able to use her given skill set to be involved in more exciting projects and to be part of a working environment that serves and loves the Lord. She is excited to be involved, knowing that her season with Calling Education is truly her calling for this time.
